Meme Micro blogging from Yahoo
12:17 AM // 1 comments // ngsk // Category: Business , Micro Blogging , News , Technology //Micro Blogging: what is this micro blogging? Now days there are so many Social networking sites all over internet famous ones like Orkut, Twitter and Facebook and so on. These social networking sites help people to make friends online or to get in touch with friends and also enables its users to send and read messages and update them with day to day happenings. Micro blogging allows users to send brief text updates or micromedia such as photos or audio clips by publishing them, which can be viewed by anyone or by a restricted group which is chosen by the user.
Yahoo launched similar type of micro blogging site Meme in English after closing the social network platform SpotM, as a competition to already existing microblogging sites like Twitter. Yahoo already started this service in Portuguese languages earlier this month and in Spanish last month.
Meme is currently in an invite-only mode where a user can create the account after receiving invitation. After creating the account, users get a blank blog for micro-sharing text, images, music, videos or mash up of all these things.
How to Start?
Registration is quite simple one has to go to the site and follow the steps which gives a Meme URL based on Username like http://meme.yahoo.com/Username just similar to that of Twitter and Facebook Username URLs. Once the account is created after receiving invitation, users get a blank blog for micro-sharing text, images, music, videos or mash up of all these things
It also offers the facility to add new friends by searching the internet. Extra to this, users can search for other users using the Find option which is available on the top of the page and Follow them to receive their Meme updates. But Meme’s setting panel has minimal options like Meme title, 100 character Description, avatar/photo and notifications. Along with that, Meme also offers page layout customization with Themes but cannot customize themes with background images and custom CSS to style the text as available in other services like Twitter and Tumblr.
Meme users can also have threaded conversations at bottom of each post by using Comment option. And users can also repost other Meme users entries which is similar to Retweet option in Twitter and Reblog option in Tumblr.
All has set but we have to watch how successful this service will be for Yahoo as this Meme service is now having only minimal features at present and also lacks of several features those other competing services into micro-sharing offer. It has to improve a lot to resist the competition from already existing micro blogging sites like Twitter, Tumblr and so on. One more reason is like Yahoo hasn't had the greatest luck with social networks, SpotM its social networking site for India shutting its doors less than a year after its launch and Yahoo recently launched Know Your Mojo, a site that claims to tell you what kind of ?social mojo? you possess by analyzing your Tweets, but actually appears to do basically nothing. Yahoo also shutter down its another social networking site Mash.
But Yahoo had one advantage over Twitter in terms on reliability as Twitter's image has suffered for frequent service outages, with its "Fail Whale" graphic appearing whenever the site is overloaded.
Hope that this service gives good future for Yahoo in social networking and Micro blogging services.
